ESTIMATED TIME for Graveside Service
David J. "Zeke" Zackoski, 68, of West Scranton, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center following a lengthy illness. The beloved husband of Ann Marie Thomas Zackoski, Dave lived a life defined by love, devotion, and service to others.
Born and raised in Scranton, he was the son of the late Chester and Eleanor Zackoski. A proud graduate of West Scranton High School, Dave remained a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral. He faithfully served as Sergeant-at-Arms with the Sons of the American Legion, demonstrating his deep respect for the United States military and his unwavering commitment to supporting veterans and charitable causes.
Dave worked as a warehouseman for HarperCollins before retiring from Kane Industries. While he took great pride in his work, his greatest joy was always his family. A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, he was known for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to help anyone in need. One of his greatest gifts was making people feel loved. He never hesitated to tell family and friends that he loved them, and he said those words often and sincerely. Those simple expressions of love became one of the many ways he left a lasting impact on the people fortunate enough to know him. His caring nature extended far beyond family and friends; as a dedicated blood donor, Dave quietly helped countless individuals through his selfless commitment to giving back to his community.
A passionate sports fan, Dave enthusiastically followed West Scranton football and wrestling, Penn State athletics, the Houston Texans, and the Minnesota Twins. He enjoyed traveling and making memories with loved ones, especially on trips with Ann Marie and his brother Chester. At family gatherings, Dave could often be found playing cornhole, horseshoes, cards, or dice, creating countless memories filled with laughter and friendly competition. He also cherished the simple moments spent at home watching his favorite television shows alongside Ann Marie.
Those who knew Dave will remember his remarkable strength and resilience. No matter the challenge he faced, he rarely complained and carried himself with quiet dignity and grace. His steady presence and unwavering love provided comfort and support to those around him throughout his life.
Dave's memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Ann Marie; his sons, Joshua of Pittsburgh and Elliot of Scranton; his brothers, Richard Zackoski Sr. of Scranton, Chester Zackoski III of Moscow, and Dennis Zackoski and his wife, Peggy, of Scranton; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Pamela Zackoski, who passed away in 2008.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral, with interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, West Scranton.
Dave will be remembered for his generous heart, steadfast loyalty to family and friends, quiet strength, and a lifetime of service to others. His legacy of kindness, compassion, and selflessness will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
