Obituary

George G. Yanko, 93, a former Bellevue resident and a resident of the Gino Merli Veterans Center, died on Saturday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was the widower of the late Maria Van Helden Yanko. Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late George and Anna Yanko. George was a graduate of West Scranton High School, a WW II United States Coast Guard veteran and a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Scranton. George was a machine repairman until retirement for DuPont Textile, Plains Twp. He is survived by his son, George H. Yanko and wife Carol, Moscow, a daughter, Anna Morley and husband Doug, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada, five grandchildren; Paul Yanko, Dunmore, Chrissy Collins and husband Mike, Madison Twp., JoAnne Yanko and partner, Christopher Kutra, Moscow, Desarae Collins and husband Alex, Alberta Canada, Laura Morley and partner, Andrew Thorne, Ontario, Canada two great grandchildren, Daniela Collins and Jaxon Tonkin, nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a son, Michael P. and a sister, Mary Straneva. A private funeral Liturgy was held on Thursday at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Martin, S.J., Pastor. Interment with Military Honors followed in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the direction and care of the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.

A private funeral Liturgy was held on Thursday at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Martin, S.J., Pastor. Interment with Military Honors followed in the parish cemetery.
