Janet Baigis

Janet Baigis, 87, of Scott Township, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026, at Allied Hospice Center with her family by her side. She was the widow of Joseph J. Baigis. Born in Throop, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Buckla) Stafursky. A graduate of Throop High School, Janet devoted much of her life to caring for her family and creating a loving home for those she cherished. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother affectionately known as "Bami," a nickname lovingly given to her by her grandchildren and embraced by all who knew her. She was actively involved in her children's school activities and took great joy in supporting their accomplishments and milestones. She was a faithful member of her church community, where she enjoyed fellowship and service alongside dear friends. Above all, she shared a deep and enduring love with her late husband, Joe. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and friendship, and created countless cherished memories through their travels and adventures together. Whether taking a long-awaited trip or enjoying simple moments along the way, they embraced every opportunity to explore the world side by side. Her warmth, kindness, generosity, and unwavering dedication to family and faith will be remembered by all who knew and loved her. Janet is survived by her daughters; Michelle Shulde & fiancé Peter, Carbondale, Deborah Flint and husband, Dr. Laurence Flint, NJ, son; Joseph Baigis & wife April, MD, 5 grandchildren; Anthony & wife Annalisa, Nicole & husband Michael, Dr. Matthew Flint & wife Megan, James and Patrick; 7 great grandchildren; Giovanni, Luciana, Vincenzo, Grayson, Harper, Emmeline, Riley. Also surviving are her sister Ann Schlasta and her brother, John Stafursky. She was proceeded in death by her brother, Steven Stafursky; and three sisters, Jeanne Holowach, Sonia Prestys and Eleanor Sovyrda. Family and friends may call Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home and Cremation Services LLC, 262 Railroad Ave., West Scranton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am, by the Rev. August Ricciardi, Pastor of St. John Vianney Parish, 704 Montdale Road, Scott Township, PA 18447. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Commerce Drive, Scott Township. Those wishing to attend Mass are requested to go directly to church. The family kindly requests no flowers.
