Joan M. Pinnell, 85, a resident at Thurston Woods Nursing Home Sturgis MI, died Wednesday, July 7, 2021. She was born in New York City January 4, 1936, to Arthur Leslie and Hilda Maude (James) James. Joan married Donald L. Pinnell in 1959. She lived most of her life in Scranton PA until moving to Sturgis MI in 2010 to be near her daughter.  Joan had 2 children Leslie (Larry) York, White Pigeon MI and Douglas (Karen) Pinnell, Taylor PA. She has 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Joan was a Navy Reserve WAVE in the 1950's and worked in various Scranton industries, including the telephone company, unit clerk at CMC Hospital, and Sears. She also volunteered at the CMC Hospital and was a member of the Scranton Junior Century Club for years. She was an avid football fan.

Private graveside services with family were officiated by the Rev. Elliott Cooke, Pastor of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, West Scranton, in the Dunmore Cemetery on Monday, July 12, 2021.
