John (Jack) Zak Sr., passed away on Thursday evening at the Allied Hospice Center, Scranton, and was surrounded by his wife, children and grandsons by his side.  Born in Scranton, he is the son of the late John S. Zak and Stella Paszkowski.  A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and was a United States Army Veteran, serving with the A Battery, 8 ^th Missile Battalion, 3 ^rd Artillery during the Vietnam War. John was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Parish, the Jessup VFW and was a former Boy Scout Leader for Troop 42, South Scranton. Jack was a Father and Grandfather to of his children, grandkids and their friends.  His grandsons, Mikey and Cody were his pride and joy.  He could put anyone at ease with his soft tone and comforting voice.  Jack could fix anything.  He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy Skorupka, two sons, John Zak Jr and L.J. Harrington, both of Scranton, one daughter, Kimberly Petcavage, Jefferson Township, three grandchildren, Michael Zak, Cody Petcavage and Kyleigh Petcavage, one sister, Barbara Nilenders and husband Ed, Philadelphia, and a niece, Eve Danielle and a great nephew Erik. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 9:30 am, by the Rev. Scott P. Sterowski, Pastor of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 1217 Prospect Avenue, Scranton. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township. Viewing for family and friends will be on Wednesday, 4 to 7 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.  Memorial Contributions can be made to Camp Freedom, 284 Number 7 Road, Carbondale, PA 18407.
