Joseph Sniegowski Jr., 92, of West Scranton, passed Wednesday morning at Abington Manor, South Abington Township. His wife of 65 years, Rita A. Shygelski Sniegowski, passed in 2021. Born in Fenton, NY, he is the son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary Sofranko Sniegowski. Joseph was educated in West Scranton High School and was a lifelong member of SS Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church where he volunteered as an usher. Joe was a United States Navy Veteran, having served in Korea and Japan serving on the USS Yosemite and the Clarence K. Bronson as a BM2. Joe retired from the Chamberlain Corporation and was a member of the Kosciuszko American Legion Post 207 and VFW Post 6528.
He is survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his wife, parents and brothers Robert and George Sniegowski.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 21 at 11 am in St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, 1309 West Locust Street, West Scranton, 18504, celebrated by the Rev. Fr. James Paisley, Pastor. Interment will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Family and Friends are invited to a viewing for Joe, Monday, 9:30 am to 10:30 am in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
