Marcella Cafarella, 88, of Emerson, New Jersey died Saturday April 4th at Allied Services Hospice Center. She was married on October 12, 1968 to Domenic L Cafarella, who died May 13, 2020. Together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage.
Born on June 1, 1937 in Milazzo, Provincia De Messina, Sicily, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Maria Capone. Marcella was a graduate of University of Messina where she obtained a degree in Classical Literature. She immigrated to the United States in 1962 and resided in Emerson, NJ from 1963-2022, at which time she moved to Allied Terrace in Scranton, PA to be closer to her son and family. She was a proud member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
In addition to her late husband, she is survived by her son, Domenic and his wife, Nicole, as well as grandchildren, Nicholas and Gianna, Scranton, PA. Her sister, Tina Amato and her late husband, Joseph Amato. Her brother, Gaetano Capone and wife, Vera, Jackson, NJ. Sister-in-Law Vivian Cafarella and partner, Nancy Leach, Brewster, MA. Marcella was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Domenica and Tom Amato. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allied Services Hospice Center, 511 Morgan Highway, Scranton, PA 18508, or Allied Terrace, 100 Terrace Lane, Scranton, PA 18508, both of whom provided exceptional care to Marcella.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton, PA 18505.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Assumption, 29 Jefferson Avenue, Emerson, NJ 07630. Family and friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will follow at Westwood Cemetery, Westwood, NJ.
