Obituary

Michael R. Harrington, of Scranton, age 54, departed this world far too soon on January 23, 2026. Michael was the son of Ann Balko Harrington and had an especially close and loving bond with her. In addition to being a devoted father to his three sons, Bryce, Nolan and Gavin, whom he was incredibly proud of; Michael also shared a loving relationship with his nephew Noah. He had many friends and extended family members who were deeply touched by his kindness and humor.

Michael had a true passion for sports and loved not only watching them, but being involved - especially when it came to his boys. He treasured the years spent cheering them on. Michael was a devoted sports fan who proudly supported his teams, the Pittsburg Steelers, the Houston Rockets, the Houston Astros and the Michigan Wolverines. Michael also enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, darts, music, trips to Atlantic City, and - most of all - spending time with friends, sharing good times and laughter.

Michael graduated Scranton Technical High School class of 1990. He worked for many years at Specialty Records and went on to work for the Scranton School District, where he was known as dependable, kind, and always willing to help others. Michael consistently put the needs of others before his own, offering support to friends in need and serving as a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen. He had a gift for cracking jokes and making people smile, and he created countless lasting memories with those lucky enough to know him.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Robert W. Harrington. During his final days, Michael was lovingly cared for by his devoted caregiver and companion, as well as by his mother Ann and his three sons, who stood by him and never left his side. Their unwavering love, strength, and devotion carried him through his hardest moments meant more to him than words could ever express. Michael will be missed forever, especially by his mother Ann, whose heart is broken by his loss. His love, laughter, and generous spirit will live on through his sons, family, and friends, and in every memory shared of a man who gave so much of himself to others.

A Celebration of Life to honor Michael will take place at a later date.
