Michael Stanek, 43, of West Scranton, died Friday night in Geisinger/CMC after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Scranton, he is the son of Gerald "Jerry" Stanek of Scranton and the late Patricia McDonald Stanek who died on September 19, 2012. A graduate of West Scranton High School and Johnson Technical Institute, he was a lab technician for Lockheed Martin, Archbald and was a member of St. Ann's Basilica Parish. He is also survived by one sister, Michelle Coolbaugh and husband Kevin, Scranton, two nephews, Matthew Stanek and Jeremy Coolbaugh, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday in St. Ann's Basilica Parish at 10 am. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 4 to 7 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
