Obituary

Michael A. Swingle, 68, of West Scranton, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday after an extended illness, with his loving wife, Mickie, and his faithful dog, by his side. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michaelle Booth Swingle. Together they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, July 10, marking five decades of unwavering love, devotion, and partnership. A milestone they were blessed to celebrate together.

Born in Scranton, Michael was the son of the late Alton and Evelyn Swingle. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School, proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, and worked as a printer at Haddon Craftsmen before retiring from Herff Jones. Above all else, Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy in life was his family.

He is also survived by his 4 children: Michael Swingle Jr. of Scranton; Jason Swingle and wife, Hayley, of Archbald; Kasey Gilbert and husband, Jason, of Scranton; and Samantha Wasko and husband, Ryan, of Taylor; former daughter-in-law, Megan Swingle, of Taylor; his siblings, Lori Syrylo and husband, Matt, of Scranton, and Shawn Smith and wife, Maura, of Scranton.

He leaves behind 14 beloved grandchildren, whom he adored. Over the years, he played an active role in caring for many of his grandchildren, creating lifelong memories and an unbreakable bond with each of them. His grandchildren are Michael, Emily, Hailey, Abigale, Ryan, Maggie, Ella, Oliver, Nathan, Noah, Evelyn, Audrey, Gigi, and Harper; and great-granddaughter, Cameron.

Michael was a lifelong and devoted Raiders fan. Before his illness, some of his happiest days were spent at the river either surrounded by family or casting a fishing line into the water. Whether at home, on the river, or traveling to the Finger Lakes, he found his greatest happiness simply being with his family. Michael’s kindness, quiet strength, sense of humor, and unwavering love for those closest to him will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration Life on Thursday, 5 to 8 pm in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.

In honor of Mike's easygoing nature, family and friends are encouraged to dress comfortably. He would have wanted everyone to feel at ease while gathering to celebrate his life.
