Robert J. Smith, 64, of North Scranton, died Friday, May 8, 2015. Born in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of the late Robert F. and Evelyn Columbus Smith. Educated in Midland Park Schools, Bergen County, NJ, he was a Viet Nam Navy veteran serving as an electricians mate aboard the nuclear submarine, John Adams. Bob was of the Catholic faith and was employed as an electrician for the NJ/NY Port Authority until his illness. He was a member of the American Legion, Rochelle, NJ, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elmwood Park, NJ, the Taurus Club and Polish Club, of Scranton. .Bob is survived by his wife Joan Bolt, four brothers, Steven Smith, Toms River, Gary Smith, Andover, NJ, Joseph Smith, Scranton, Marc Smith New Port Richie, FL, one sister, Suzanne M. Van Hevelingen, Lexington, NC, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Richard W. Smith. A Celebration of Life will be held at a time to be announced.
