Sandra Backus, 77, of Scranton, passed on Monday at home after an extended illness. Her husband is William Backus. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late William and Muriel Vail. Sandra was a graduate of West Scranton High School, retired from Career Uniform and was of the Methodist Faith. Along with her husband William, she is survived by their son, Chad Backus, five grandchildren, Brett, Ireland, Samantha, Shelby and Ian Backus, a stepson, Billy Backus and wife Jackie, Florida, one sister; Jacqueline Hawkins, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters; Beverly Kauffman and Sally Vail. There are no public services. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Edward J Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, West Scranton.
