Thomas J. Gazoo, 66, of West Scranton, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas P. Gazoo and Jean “Nina” Diaz Gazoo.
A proud graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1978, Tom devoted 38 years to Pennsylvania Paper & Supply Company, where he became the company’s longest-tenured salesperson and one of its most beloved employees. His larger-than-life personality, dedication to his customers, and ability to make people laugh made him a favorite among coworkers and clients alike.
In 2004, while preparing for the pilot episode of The Office, actor John Krasinski visited Penn Paper to observe the paper sales industry. Tom was among those filmed during the visit, and Krasinski later described him as “comedy gold,” with aspects of Tom’s humor and personality inspiring characters on the series.
Tom’s impact extended far beyond his career. He was the longtime voice of the West Side Falcons and proudly served as president and coach of the former West Side Jets football program, mentoring countless young athletes. A gifted entertainer from an early age, he starred as Conrad Birdie in West Scranton High School’s production of Bye Bye Birdie in 1977 and was well known for his disco dance moves, quick wit, and infectious personality.
Tom loved spending time on the golf course with his friends, but more than anything, he loved being a father. He was a constant source of encouragement and support for his sons, Tommy and Corey. Whether coaching them in baseball, or guiding them throughout their wrestling careers, he was there whenever they needed him. He never missed an opportunity to cheer them on, celebrate their successes, and remind them how proud he was of them.
Beyond his role as a father, Tom was a devoted grandfather, companion, and friend. He cherished time spent with his loving companion of 22 years, Louise Fratzola, especially their trips to the casinos, favorite local restaurants, and time with family. His greatest joy was his beautiful grandchildren.
Tom will be remembered for his booming voice, magnetic personality, generous spirit, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel like a friend. His laughter, kindness, and unforgettable presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas C. Gazoo and wife, Amy, of Moosic, and Corey Gazoo and wife, Christy, of Clarks Green; his loving companion, Louise Fratzola; the mother of his children, Christine Harris; his cherished grandchildren, Amelia, Nicholas, and Reese Gazoo; Louise’s daughters, Alycia and Casey Fratzola, whom Tom loved as his own; step-granddaughters, Sloane and Blakely Bonczek; as well as dozens of beloved cousins and extended family members who were more like brothers and sisters, sharing lifelong bonds of love, laughter, and unwavering friendship.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, LLC., 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Mercy Parish, St. Joseph’s Church, 312 Davis Street, Scranton.
Interment will be private.
