William T. (Bill) Checho, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill and his beloved wife Pamela Reardon Checho celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in November. Born in Scranton, Bill was the son of the late Samuel and Carmella Stivala Checho. He was a graduate of West Scranton High School, Class of 1965. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a communications specialist in Vietnam, a role he held with quiet strength and honor.
Known for his strong work ethic, Bill dedicated many years as a Superintendent at Supermarket Services until his retirement.
Outside of work, he found joy in life's simple pleasures- yard work, gardening, trips to the casino and fishing, especially the annual guys trip with his brothers and nephews to the Island. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his family, who will remember him for his steady presence, warm heart and unwavering love.
In addition to his his devoted wife, he is survived by his three daughters, Pamela Dougher (Joseph), Harrisburg; Paula May, Scranton; Andrea Checho, Scranton; his son, William (Billy) Checho II (Lori), Scranton; his sister Mary Ann Yesu, Dalton and his brother Salvatore Checho (Annamarie), Bangor. He was a proud "Poppy" to his adoring seven grandchildren: Jordan, Cole, Trevor, Josh, Madison, Mackenzie and Colin. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his fur babies, Gray and Milo.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas and Joseph. It is especially poignant that his brother Joseph was called home in the early morning hours of the very same day. He was also preceded in death by his nephews Craig and Christopher Checho.
