Obituary

William Clark Murphy, 98, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Sunday, April 20 th , 2025, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he had been a resident since 2019.

William had many nicknames, including Bill, Red, and Murph. He was born and raised in Trenton, N.J., the son of Wilbur Murphy and Helen Gertrude Clark. When Bill was very young, Helen passed away, and his father remarried Lillian M. Joynson, whom Bill adored.

After graduating from Trenton Central High School, Bill joined the United States Army in 1951, serving as a clerk typist during the Korean War. He was awarded the Occupation Medal of Germany and honorably discharged in 1957. Bill began working for IBM and retired in 1990 after 33 years of service.

Right before his retirement, he met Louisa, his loving companion of 23 years before her passing. Together, they traveled the world, visiting Spain and Canada often. They also traveled extensively throughout the United States and made weekly trips to Atlantic City.

Bill loved to cheer on his Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers. He enjoyed spending time with Louisa's family, especially her grandson, Marc Lattanzi, and his wife, Beth, and their children, Gabrielle and Anthony. He also treasured his Sunday calls with Sylvie Cloutier Lousia's step-granddaughter.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving companion Louisa Dussault, his brother George Murphy, and his sisters Mary Betty Curley and Marian Applegate.

Bill leaves behind the Lattanzi family and his many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, PA, for their gentle care during his time there.
